Assessment of Learning Style Profiles on Newly Joined MBBS Students during the Foundation Course

Introduction: Information enters brain by three main ways - Sight, hearing, and touch, which one is used individual mostly becomes their own learning style. Most of students have a combination styles. One them dominant than others. AIM this study: To identify various styles if possible dominant/also prominent each student 1st MBBS fresh at the foundation course. Materials methods: The study conducted was cross sectional done among 150 enrolled in course for year 2019-2020 NRIIMS. A pro-forma / questionnaire prepared using VARK approach. Data collected that proforma. Study procedure: During regular working hours, first-year undergraduate medical were briefed about study. then distributed form hard copies to first M.B.B.S students. Variables evaluation: Students into following categories: Unimodal-Having only V, A, R, or K preferences; Bimodal-Having two preferences (VR, VA, VK, AR, AK,RK) ; Scores given accordingly. Statistical analysis: data entered Microsoft excel sheet score statistically analyzed determine percentage category Results: Response rate 75.3% majority Females comprising 44.6%. Bimodal style most preferred Unimodal corresponding 87.6% 12.3% respectively. Among strong learners Aural, Visual, Reading/writing, kinesthetic documented 4.4%, 3.5%, 2.6%,1.8% In visual auditory are 27.4% participants. Least commonly employed Reading/Writing it reported 8.9% Conclusion: present amongst Bi-Modal style, with Visual Aural presentation With help questionnaire, recommended test all This will/ can be desired helps improve educational goals choosing appropriate teaching methods.
